Although shark fin soup is way more popular in Asia, fishing and killing of sharks has become a worldwide issue. Animal rights activists and other ocean conservationists have been fighting for an end to the evil way some fishermen catch and “fin” the sharks since most only catch them precisely for their fins alone, disposing the rest of the fish by leaving them to die horrible deaths by drowning in the ocean after they cut off the fin. Because of this, the shark population has also suffered and is dwindling at best. This also prompted the US to ban fishing for sharks, as well as a number of states banning the sale of shark fin altogether.
