Just like nunchucks, switchblades, and brass knuckles, switchblades are another weapon that have been banned in the United States. They have been associated with gangs and street fights for many years, much like their other counterparts. A number of soldiers returning from World War II had brought back what’s known as “stilettos” or automatic knives, which became a trademark of a number of street gangs that emerged in the 50s, much like the ones featured in the movie “West Side Story.” A 1958 Federal Switchblade Act eventually made them illegal to own, and they are still considered prohibited until this very day.
