Calling Non-Meat “Meat”

Apparently a number of states have been attempting to get non-meat or vegetarian manufacturers banned from calling their non-meat items “meat.” As mentioned by the NPR, these states include Mississippi, Wyoming, Missouri, South Dakota and Montana. This means that most of these states are fighting to disallow these non-meat companies from using food terms like sausage, hot dog, jerky, and burger, wanting them to be only used for products that come from real animals.
