Confusing Turkey Ham with Ham Turkey

Foster Farm Turkey

Back in 1976, there was a huge stink within the food industry when turkey ham first came out on the market. It was made from turkey but it looked exactly like pork ham, and even tasted like it too. And it wasn’t even just the pork industry that was upset, but the beef industry was too, which led them to take legal action. These days, manufacturers that produce turkey ham are required to call it “turkey ham” on the label and not “ham turkey,” and alongside that, it must also be followed by the phrase “cured turkey thigh meat.”
