Vandalizing Mailboxes

All Things Robin

Vandalizing mailboxes used to be something that teenagers and other hooligans used to do for fun. But what a number of these kids don’t realize is that it is considered a federal offense to “tamper with, vandalize, deface or destroy mailboxes or any mail inside of them.” Mail is actually considered federal property, and illegal defacing, stealing or destroying it is also against the law. According to the U.S. Postal Service, if caught, assailants can be charged and sentenced to three years in jail, as well as made to pay a fine of $250,000.
