The highly influential Ronald Wilson Reagan was born in an apartment in Tampico, Illinois and was raised in a low-income household. Before he entered politics, he had a long career in entertainment, starting as a sports commentator for baseball games before landing his first starring role in the movie Love is on the Air. Within two years, Reagan had appeared in almost 20 films, and by 1942, he was earning $3,000 a week. He also made money as a motivational speaker at General Electric, and twice he was elected president of the Screen Actors Guild.
