Warren Gamaliel Harding was born in Blooming Grove, Ohio to two doctors and was the eldest of eight children. His family originally lived on a farm, but his parents decided to pursue a medical practice to provide their children with a better life. Though Harding was recognized as one of the most popular U.S. presidents when he was alive, his ratings drastically plummeted after his death when several scandals came to light, including the Teapot Dome scandal that revealed friends he placed in power involved in bribery and criminal activities. Harding’s approval rating also dropped when his extramarital affairs were uncovered. Despite having worked as an insurance salesman, teacher, reporter, publisher and owning The Marion Star, Harding wasn’t able to multiply his wealth when he became president and unexpectedly died from a cardiac arrest at the age of 57.
