Yes, this Co-Le Sales Company ad has a drawing of a man spanking his wife, which promotes domestic violence, and it even shows that both husband and wife are enjoying it too. The tagline reads, “Do you still beat your wife?” which is bad enough, but then it goes on to say, “Maybe you should never have stopped.” And to add insult to injury, it continues by suggesting that men send in 15 cents to receive a booklet entitled “Why You Should Beat Your Wife,” reportedly written by an ‘eminent practitioner of this manly art.’ It’s incredible how backward this was, and to think that this ad was okay less than a century ago.
