Volkswagen brand was the top selling car manufacturer then, and the beetle was the most popular car sold worldwide. In this ad, they explain that “Sooner or later, your wife will drive one of the best reasons for owning a Volkswagen,” and what they mean is that she’s going to bump something soon enough with her horrible driving but thank goodness their parts are easy and cheap to replace! Although it was mean to be funny, it’s really just downright sexist and rude.
