There are just so many issues with this advertisement. Not only is it making women seem weak, or that they get “too easily upset” by something like “a moth seems a monster,” but it also suggests that women be given a daytime sedative with an “extremely low incidence of toxicity.” to deal with whatever might be bothering them. While sedatives can be legally prescribed, they aren’t meant to be taken lightly nor should they be seen as some magic pill that allows women deal with a situation they deem too difficult to handle while ‘sober.’ There is no way that any pharmaceutical would be allowed to create a commercial remotely similar to this one in this day and age.
