Here’s another ad showing a woman on the top and writing “Say goodbye to Depression!” then advocating phosferine tonic wine, “the best the world produces.” Although this vintage ad isn’t all that wrong about using wine as a way to deal with life, but what is depressing is that once again, women are made to look like sad little housewives that have nothing better to do than to deal with every day life by turning to drinking as a way of “cheering and comforting” themselves and their depression, making light, once again, of mental health issues. It’s insane to think that all of these old school advertisements were once acceptable in the eyes of society.
