A North Korean Fisherman Uses A Tire As A Boat

The picture above was taken on a little lake on the way to Wonsan. The scene in the picture would easily remind anyone of the phrase, “Make do with what you’ve got.” The fisherman basically used a rubber tire as a make shift boat so that he can fish a bit farther from the shore. In most cases this can be seen as a scene that depicts ingenuity despite lacking resources, and shows the resourcefulness of the North Korean people. However, taking a picture of this scene in North Korea is illegal and is frowned upon by the authorities. This is because this scene also depicts poverty since the fisherman is dirty and cannot even afford a normal boat.
