Most people in the modern world would find it unusual to see a manual water pump inside a modern house. However, in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) this is a common sight. This is because of the drought that the country has experienced for several years. The manual pump however is not the reason why this photo is considered to be illegal. The reason why a photographer is not allowed to take a picture of the scene above since the family who owns the house has used their bathtub as a cistern to store water. Typically, government officials are careful in choosing a home that wouldn’t show any sign of poverty, they probably missed this one.
