Children Bowing

Source: Bright Side

The picture above seems innocent enough, it just shows several children in uniform while some of them are bowing down. However, a tourist might be forbidden from taking pictures of such scenes because of several reasons. First, the children look tired due to malnutrition. Second, one of the children’s pioneer’s tie has slipped. Regarding the children’s malnutrition, the North Korean government doesn’t want to admit that most of the population doesn’t get enough food. In 2019, there was a shortage of food due to a poor harvest brought about by a combination of drought and flood. The poor harvest left North Korea with a significant shortage of grain, which forced the government to reduce the daily rations to just 300 grams (10.5 ounces) per person from 550 grams. It is a well-known fact that North Korea has for several years been relying on regular supplies of U.N. food aid, even if the North Korean government doesn’t want to admit it.
