Oberlin College is unique in many ways. Founded in 1833 by Presbyterian ministers, it is the first college to accept African Americans in its student-body, and it is also the first to award bachelor’s degrees to women. A one-of-a-kind approach to teaching, the Oberlin Experimental College, of ExCo, allows students to become teachers and teach courses on any interesting courses outside their traditional curriculum. The college is also famous for its world-renowned music conservatory, and offers more than 40 majors and minors, with over 175 student clubs and organizations to choose from.
