Founded in 1856, it was originally the East Alabama Male College which has developed into a co-educational public research institution known as the Auburn University in 1960. While it used to focus mainly on agriculture and arts, its 15 schools and colleges now offer more than 140 majors, with popular ones including Business, Accounting, and Biomedical Sciences and Molecular Medicine. There are over 300 clubs and organizations for students to choose from, including 28 fraternities and 17 sororities. The students and faculty are known to conduct research into aerodynamics, nuclear science, and supercomputing, among others. The students also enjoy an 1,841-acre campus with the best facilities.
