This public, land-grant university was founded in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky and has developed into the largest in the state, with over 29,000 students enrolled. The university has over 200 academic programs being offered across 16 different schools and colleges, with more than 500 clubs and student organizations to choose from. The UK Healthcare Chandler Hospital is the best in the state while its Center on Drug and Alcohol Research has been funded to conduct a study to reduce opioid overdose deaths by 40 percent in 16 counties. The funding of $87 million across 4 years is the largest ever for the university.
