Founded in 1874, this public research university is the only land-grant institution in the state of Nevada, and also has the state’s only public medical school. Its 11 academic colleges offer about 145 majors and over 100 master’s and doctoral programs, and houses over 250 student clubs and organizations for its 21,000-plus students, over 17,500 of which are undergraduates. The campus features the Quad, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, an arboretum, the Mackay Stadium, which hosts its Division I football team, and the E.L. Wiegand Fitness Center. Over 3,000 students reside in the eight residence halls.
