Established in 1924 in Durham, Duke University expanded over the years and now has 10 different schools and colleges, and alongside its research, athletics, medical centers, and residential facilities, total 256 buildings. It enrolls almost 16,000 students, about 7,000 of which are undergraduates. Half of the undergraduate population receives financial aid, while the most popular majors include Computer Science, Economics, Public Policy, Biology, and Psychology. The Duke Libraries are among the nation’s top private research library systems. The university’s research has led to breakthroughs in science, medicine, technology, with expenditures reaching over $1 billion in 2015. Its athletics department is a force to be reckoned with in the NCAA’s Division I, especially in women’s golf and men’s basketball, winning multiple national championships.
