This private liberal arts college was established in 1866 in the town of Northfield, and is considered the country’s top college for undergraduate teaching and is also known for its journalism program. It enrolled a little over 2,000 students, with 33 majors and 31 minors to choose from. The university uses three ten-week terms per year which allows for more focus per class and overall diversity. It has the Cowling Arboretum, an 880-acre outdoor refuge for students that can also be used as a research site. Student research is highly encouraged, with projects lasting from a term to a few years, and can also be funded aside from receiving academic credit. The school also has more than 200 student organizations to make campus life more enjoyable, aside from its sports and recreation facilities.
