Brigham Young University was founded by Brigham Young himself, the Mormon leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in 1875. Due to its religious nature, students strictly follow its Honor Code that prohibits alcohol and drug use as well as growing a beard, to name a few. The largest religious university in the nation with almost 35,000 students enrolled across 180 academic programs from 10 different schools and colleges, BYU’s students are bi-lingual as it has the largest study abroad programs in 50 countries. Since more than 98% of the students are Mormons, more than half of the student body go on a two-year leave of absence and return from religious missions all over the world.
