Founded in 1865 with its main campus in Lawrence, Kansas, the university is composed of 13 schools offering more than 200 undergraduate fields of study and over 50 graduate programs. The school is renowned for its city management and urban policy program, as well as its special education program. It enrolled over 28,000 students, with more than 600 student organizations to be joined. This AAU university is classified as a “highest research activity” with 12 research centers and institutes focusing on human development and cognitive function, information and modeling complex systems, and environment and energy, among a few others. The University of Kansas is also known for its debate team which won the National Debate Tournament for a total of 6 times, the most recent in 2018.
