Founded in 1876 and considered America’s first research university, it is also at the forefront of total research and development spending, with its nursing, biomedical engineering, medicine, and public health graduate programs ranking among the best in the country. It operates campuses Italy and China aside from its U.S. campuses, which enrolled over 5,200 undergraduates in the 52 majors and 46 minors that the nine different schools offer, aside from 400 student organizations to choose from. The total number of students are at 24,000, with the most number of students enrolled in the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and Whiting School of Engineering. The most popular majors are Public Health Studies, International Studies, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, and Economics.
