Located in California’s Bay Area, and founded in 1891 by Jane and Leland Stanford, the university has more graduate students enrolled compared to undergraduates. Combined, it boasts a student-to-faculty ratio of approximately 5:1. The combined 8,180-acre compound houses around 97% of its undergraduates availing of programs including humanities, social sciences, engineering, and sciences from its seven schools. There are around 600 student organizations, with 15 fraternities and 14 sororities. Its SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory conducts research in bioscience, high-energy physics, and advanced accelerator development, among many others.
