Best:
North Dakota has seen a recent boom in its economy, thanks to the development of the Bakken shale oil formation, which led to a 25% spike in the state’s GDP. The sudden growth in the local economy has also seen unemployment in the state drop, with merely 2.4% of The Peace Garden State being jobless.
Having a job means nothing if you don’t know how to save. Fortunately, North Dakota residents are financially intelligent. The state boasts the highest number of adults who have savings accounts, this according to a poll conducted by WalletHub.
Worst:
People with money tend to spend too much on things. It would be perfectly alright if they spent it on stuff they really need, but sadly, North Dakotans spend it on drink. The state ranks as the “wettest” place in the nation, with about a quarter of its of-age residents admitting to bingeing on alcoholic beverages on a regular basis. It is also no surprise that North Dakota has one of the country’s highest incidences of DUI related fatalities.
Why the high number of binge drinkers? Well, maybe it has something to do with NoDak also being the loneliest place to live in, with 31% of its homeowners living all by themselves.
